Mission

The Cohen Student Leadership Scholarship is one of the most significant undergraduate scholarships at UConn, both in impact and financial award, and is open to students at all UConn campuses. It is awarded annually to multiple undergraduate members of registered student organizations who have demonstrated a strong and sustained commitment to eliminating bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination, while actively fostering tolerance, inclusion, and mutual understanding within the campus community through their involvement and leadership.

More than just a scholarship, the Cohen Student Leadership Scholarship represents an enduring legacy of student advocacy and social justice at UConn. Recipients become part of a distinguished network of past Cohen Scholars who have left meaningful and lasting impacts on the university and beyond. As part of this honor, recipients are invited to participate in two hallmark events: the Cohen Banquet, where the scholarship award is formally and ceremoniously revealed, and the Cohen Day of Service, a collaborative event that brings together current and past recipients to engage in community service and strengthen connections among peers who share a passion for equity and inclusion.

Through this prestigious recognition, the Cohen Scholarship not only provides substantial financial support, but also affirms the university’s deep appreciation for students whose efforts have advanced social justice, advocacy, and community building. It is a celebration of leadership, legacy, and the power of students to drive meaningful change.
