Who is the Cohen Student Leadership Scholarship for? What is the eligibility criteria for the Cohen Student Leadership Scholarship?

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students at any UConn campus with active membership in a registered student organization (RSO) at the time of their notable accomplishment. Preference is given to students involved in RSOs that do not receive student fee support. Eligible activities must be tied to the nominee’s RSO involvement and demonstrate meaningful action against bigotry, prejudice, or discrimination. Financial need is required, and students must be in good academic and conduct standing.

Why should I consider applying for the Cohen Student Leadership Scholarship? What’s included in Cohen?

Being selected as a Cohen Scholar comes with a range of valuable benefits. Recipients receive significant financial support and are honored with one of UConn’s most prestigious undergraduate awards. They are invited to the annual Cohen Banquet and the Cohen Day of Service, where they connect with fellow scholars, alumni, and campus leaders. The scholarship also offers institutional recognition, access to a supportive alumni network, opportunities for personal and professional growth, and the chance to build lasting friendships with peers who share a commitment to equity and inclusion.

How can I apply to the Cohen scholarship?

Undergraduate students interested in applying to the Cohen scholarship can apply in one of two ways:

  2. Be nominated by a UConn faculty member, staff, or graduate student – click [“For Staff: Nominating a Student”] for details.

Applications open on October 20th and close on February 3rd. Students will be notified of their acceptance before Spring Break.

Are UConn regional campus students eligible for Cohen?

Undergraduate students from UConn regional campuses are eligible and encouraged to apply! At least one student from a UConn regional campus is selected each year as a Cohen recipient.

How long does Cohen application process?

Applications open on October 20th and close on February 3rd. Students will be notified of their acceptance before Spring Break. Following this, recipients are required to attend the Cohen Day of Service on Saturday, April 11th, and the Cohen Student Leadership Scholarship Banquet on Wednesday, April 8th. No further commitment is required. 

I am a faculty/staff/graduate student who is interested in nominating an undergraduate student that I know for the Cohen Scholarship? How do I go about doing that?

How much money is each Cohen recipient awarded?

The exact amount of the Cohen Student Leadership Scholarship is not shared in advance and is revealed during the annual Cohen Banquet. While the award amount varies each year based on the number of recipients, it remains one of the most significant undergraduate scholarships at UConn and provides substantial financial support to those selected.
